Congratulations, Congressman Murphy

I want to join Duncan and Susie in congratulating Pennsylvania’s newest Congressman, Patrick Murphy, on his victory yesterday.

I first met him at a DFA event held a year and a half ago at the Yard’s Brewery. Here was my first impression:

All of the candidates were impressive, but I was especially taken with Patrick Murphy, a young war veteran who hopes to follow in the footsteps of Paul Hackett. Murphy is engaged, photogenic, and passionate, and I think he has what it takes to make a real difference in 2006 and beyond. It’s so gratifying to see that soldiers like Paul Hackett and Patrick Murphy have come back from Iraq, and are now speaking out about what they saw and taking part in the political process.

It was nice to watch him grow as a candidate. I’m confident that he will make his district proud in Congress. Congratulations to him, to his staff, and to his volunteers; and congratulations to the citizens of PA-08 for making such a fine choice.

Now, Patrick — go shake up D.C.!
