ABC: Always Be Closing

“There are, uh, uchhmm, some strategical things I should have done different.”

– Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid, after yesterday’s ridiculous loss to the Giants

I’m sick and tired of Andy Reid’s muffled throat-clearings and half-swallowed phrases. The Eagles looked like a Super Bowl contender for three out of four quarters yesterday. They need a coach who will show them how to finish.

‘Cause coffee’s for closers only.

“Get mad, you sonuvabitches, GET MAD!!!!”

UPDATE: The BM Rant has a nice recap, if you can stand to read it.

“Strategical”? WTF is that for a word? Is he friends with George now?

The Eagles can at least take comfort in the fact that they’re not the Redskins, who look truly pathetic for all the flash and the money and the raised expectations that only a chronically cheated-upon lover could continue to believe in at this point.

Reid is the single most frustrating coach I’ve ever listened to. He’s entirely closed to the media, and refuses to call his players out in public.

And that’s fine, but only as long as he calls them out behind closed doors. We all hope that his quiet comments in front of the microphones are followed by screams of fury in the locker room, but what evidence do we have of that? Where’s the fire? And isn’t some 4th-quarter intensity exactly what this team needs?

Scary news from the press conference: Reid called Kearse’s injury “severe.”

I don’t wanna hear any of you bitch and moan — at least you were alive the last time your team made a SuperBowl.

Meantime, us Chiefs fans have either had awesome defense and no offense, or all offense and no defense (and that ignores the late ’70s and entire ’80s when they had neither).

So kiss my red and gold ass.

:-P

Well, *I* enjoyed it…

It doesn’t really explain the *offensive* collapse, but weren’t they down to their #4 cornerback, and wasn’t Kearse hobbled and eventually out?

-which is exactly why the offensive collapse hurt so much. When you’re defense is getting more depleted by the quarter, the last thing you need is a bunch of three-and-out’s to help wear them down faster.
