Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm is blowing my mind. Wow.
If you haven’t heard it yet, check it out.
What albums are rocking your world?

One of the best albums to come along in a long while.

Nice. Reminds me a lot of Pedro the Lion’s “Control” but doesn’t make me want to kill myself quite as painfully.

Dude, that’s the second post I’ve read in the past few days with a title evoking William Carlos Williams. Pesky Apostrophe had the other one.
Sorry, that’s all I had to add, at least until I find out what all the raves are about…

Good choice in music Matt. Lately I’ve had the following albums on heavy rotation: Ry Cooder’s Chavez Ravine, Beck’s Guero, and both Interpol albums.

Has anyone heard Paul Anka’s Rock Swings? I don’t love it, but it is pretty crazy to hear songs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” reimagined as big band swing tunes.

Am currently playing The Knitters, “The Modern Sound of The Knitters” — a wonderful album by John Doe, Exene Cervenka and DJ Bonebreak (of X) and Dave Alvin (of The Blasters); It’s a country album that is just amazing they cover some X tunes as well as “Born to Be Wild”. The same group did one other album almost twenty years ago called, “Poor Little Critter In The Road”.

Matt–I heard Paul Anka interviewed on Steve Jones’ (of the Sex Pistols) show on Indie 103 FM. He was talking about Vegas lounge acts and that sort of stuff. It kind of reminds me when Pat Boone did a “heavy metal” album in the 1990’s but the songs ended up sounding like heavy big band.
Oh, BTW, I listened to the Bloc Party album several times yesterday. It’s a bit melancholic but very enjoyable. I hear a lot of different influences in their sound. Excellent suggestion.
Glad you liked my Gropenfuhrer pic.

Johnny Cash’s American IV: The Man Comes Around is a a great cover album also. He really made each song his own, more than just a plain cover.

I don’t want to rain on the parade — I love the Bloc Party disc. But has anyone else noticed that a series of Target ads have sprung up with Bloc Party playing in the background? One of the commercials makes it sound like Target is releasing some sort of mixed music CD.
