So Sorry

As I was working at the computer tonight, my cat, Luna, came up to the foot of my chair and tried to get my attention.

I reached down to pet her head, and must have inadvertently lifted the chair slightly. She let out a yelp of fear and pain. I looked down in horror; her paw seemed caught under the chair leg. I leaned forward to get up, but the shift produced another yelp. Finally, I was up and she was free. The incident lasted two, maybe three seconds, but it felt like an eternity.

She scampered away. I followed her and picked her up, trying to comfort her. She seemed small and scared, but unhurt — no limp, no sensitivity, no licking at a wound.

She lived to fight another day.

So many Lunas! Have a direct link? My cat seems to hold steady at about a 64-65% winning percentage.

Cats are pretty resilient (and biologically predisposed toward short memories, I hear), but those moments are traumatic. I’m glad you’re both well.

Matt:

Josh, I haven’t actually submitted her picture there yet…but I may do so yet. Your cat is adorable!

JLo, I have the sense that the incident was much more traumatic for me that it was for her. I’m still not sure exactly what transpired…I don’t think that the chair leg came down directly on her foot. Perhaps some hair got caught underneath and she got scared when she felt it pulled. In any case, she’s okay, and I’m (pretty much) okay. Thanks for the good wishes.

Josh:

Thanks, but you should say WAS adorable. Now he’s a big, fat, evil, bastard. Kinda like Karl Rove but a little less willing to draw blood.
